Over the past decade internet use has shot through the roof, its easy
and beneficial uses have encouraged almost everyone with a computer to
use the internet as their primary means of communication. It is
estimated that approximately 150 million people are online worldwide,
but that number is increasing at a rate of 12% per month. Many of these
people use chat rooms and other internet features to communicate with
other humans. Studies prepared revealed that many people who are
addicted to chat rooms do so because of their lack of social skills,
pleasure, gratification, or to get relief from stress. Yet in the end,
these people admit to losing the little skills the had, feeling signs of
alienation and loneliness. Along with loneliness came neglecting work,
school, and family obligations. Studies have also found that children
are far more likely to be addicted to the internet and chat rooms then
their parents are. Adults tend to use the internet for more work-related
information; children and teenagers tend to use it for playing games,
chatting, or listening to music. For these youth chat rooms are a sense
of relief and safety for their unfulfilling intimacy and contact in real
life. But by doing so, in the end the are hurting their social network,
causing a further reliance on chat rooms for interaction.

i fully agree, and because of the ever spreading new technology that
makes it easier and easier to talk amongst people on the internet, it
will continue to get worse before it ever gets better. Children and
teens have to discover this for themselves before they harm their social
lives along with people around them.

This article seems very depressing! It's sad that some people would use
the Internet as a substitute for real social interaction!

It is sad to hear, that some people use chat rooms because they wish to
be alienated from the real world due to their poor social skills.
Another problem is that today's youth would rather sit in front of the
computer screen then go outside to play, this is a real problem.

In our society, computer technology has grew rapidly and almost every
family has at least one computer or labtop. They believe that computer
is a very convenient and fast way for communication, such as e-mail,
chat rooms, and so on. These people can also use Internet for searching
by using the search engines that are provided on the web. Therefore,
using a computer becomes a daily routine for most people. Many people
spend a lot of time using their computer. Spending a lot of time using
the computer can cause many serious injuries such as RSI. If RSI is not
cure properly, it can cause serious problems to the body. I also
believe that many people already rely on computers and I can't imagine
that if one day there will be no computer, what will people do?
