This article gives a brief explanation of how piracy prevents companies
from gaining enough profit from their current projects to fund future
projects. Basically, music artists are the ones that suffer the most, as
their efforts are not properly reflected in the profit that they make
once piracy comes into play. Music companies can not generate enough
profit to adequately gain back what they put into distribution, and this
lack of funds prevents them from having enough to fund future artists.
Not only are companies in danger, but also the consumers, as pirated
software is not under warranty, and so does not take responsibility for
any damage done to your computer. Besides the possibility of your
computer extracting a virus, piracy is illegal and breaks copyright
laws, and so brings about questions of the moral consequences of your
actions.

true, but teens will not stop at the chance of gaining free music. This
opportunity for teens and kids is so huge because everyone is doing it,
they feel that it is safe and gives them privileges to ignore the
copyright laws. Until there are stricter laws regulating the internet
and its use, then kids will continue to use the internet as a means of
gaining free music to suit their own wants.

If you think about it, downloading music is in essence stealing, yet
we all do it. Well, at least most of us. I have a friend who was
recently challenged to not download a single song for a month. She
managed to do it; however, she had many difficulties with it. She is
one of those people who has a few thousand mp3's either on her harddrive
or burned to a CD. Maybe there could be a way to charge people for the
songs they download as to fund music companies and future artists, as
well as current artists. Most people would complain but, maybe CD
prices would drop as a result of paying to download.

It is true that piracy is a crime but is it really the fault of the
consumer? Or is it the fault of the manufacturer?
